Energy Using Products Directive
The Energy-using-Products Directive (EuP) from the EU is targeting the design of products that use electricity to operate. Its aim is to improve the environmental performance of all these products across their life-cycle by setting minimum eco-design requirements for manufacturers.
The legislation applies to producers, manufacturers and importers of electrical items. You will need technical documentation detailing your product's design specifications to demonstrate you comply and to obtain a CE Mark. Without it, products will not be able to be sold or imported onto the EU market.
WSP has developed a unique eco-design tool called 'EcoFly' which helps designers integrate eco-design into a product and ultimately comply with this legislation.
Our tool helps you plan and make technical design changes to reduce the environmental impact of your product. Simply input specific product information and EcoFly generates reports on the environmental impacts. It assesses issues around energy consumption, carbon emissions, waste generation and water usage, comparing these against environmental standards or your own targets.
It's more than just a compliance tool. You can benchmark against other products and the information you get on your own product includes suggested technical refinements to help you improve its eco-design.
So, let's just capture how WSP's team of sustainability experts can help you comply with the Energy-using-Products Directive:
- We'll update you on the roll-out of the legislation across different product groups
- We can help you take advantage of our EcoFly assessment tool
- We can advise you on driving internal awareness on the impacts of the new legislation
- We can support your development of greener products
