Building a charter for safety culture for Leighton International

Leighton International is one of the world's leading contractors and project developers in Asia and the Gulf Region.  Our behavioural risk specialists have been working with them to develop a robust and tangible safety culture within their business.

We held a series of workshops for their senior leadership team to develop a charter of 7 key actions that can be used to demonstrate their commitment to a safety culture.

It was an area that Leighton's had already done some basic work on.  They wanted to retain ownership of the direction, but sought our advice to build the key characteristics of a safety leadership team.

Our series of workshops focused on the key elements and characteristics of building a safety culture.  The resultant charter can be used at all levels including general managers, project managers and operational managers.  We developed a set of actions which the management could take to provide evidence to demonstrate their commitment to the safety culture.

It's a robust solution for Leighton's.  It establishes accountability and responsibility at a senior level in their organisation. It can be used throughout their organisation and provides a tangible demonstration to Leighton's commitment to safety that can be measured and managed.
