Policy Development, Governance & Regulation
We work with Governments and teams running mega-developments to create sustainable visions, strategies, policies, regulatory structures, and technical standards. We bring the latest international thinking and ideas and help to determine aspirations and plans for integrating responsible and sustainable practices across organisations and their jurisdictions or projects.
Often we start by benchmarking current performance and ambitions and help to establish where a client wants to be. When agreed we identify the performance levels required and design the techniques needed to realise these goals. Critical to this is to profile the associated risks and opportunities in the context of economic drivers, environmental gain, technology curves and societal acceptability.
The outcome is that we integrate our technical expertise in energy, resources, water and coastal, planning and transport, with our experience in establishing advanced models for modern regulation. This enables us to provide technically robust solutions that are implemented using direct regulation, market mechanisms, voluntary tools, and self-regulation.
And we help to deliver real and efficient means of implementing change by carrying this through to the development of detailed technical standards and briefings to which a developments entire project team must conform too.
We have built up an envious track record in this area. Let's look at some examples.
We helped to develop the Dubai Urban Development Framework which aimed to create an innovative, flexible and fully integrated development policy, planning and management framework for Dubai to the year 2020 and beyond. We then later developed Dubai's Green Building Regulations and all supporting assessments and mechanisms due to be implemented in 2009.
In the UK we developed the technical standards and strategy to deliver the 'net zero carbon' 800 home development in Chichester. This development included the UK's largest domestic installation of PV's. We also currently sit on the UK Green Building Council's policy development group.
