Advising EPA Climate Leaders Program in US

In the US we provide technical assistance to the Environmental Protection Agency's 'Climate Leaders Program'. It's an industry-government partnership that works with companies to develop comprehensive climate change strategies. We're helping over 80 companies in the program to develop GHG inventories and complete reporting requirements. The whole program will prevent more than 50m metric tons of CO2 per year.

Climate strategy and carbon accounting

We developed a GHG Management Plan and quantified a leading international financial institution's total carbon footprint in alignment with the WBCSD/WRI corporate accounting and reporting standards. The inventory included the emissions associated with all owned and leased real estate assets, commercial and executive air travel and owned vehicles.

LCA Screening for national waste strategy

On behalf of Iceland's main waste management operator SORPA, we conducted life cycle screening of different waste management options and their environmental impacts. This will help determine the future waste treatment system in Iceland. Treatment studies included; anaerobic digestion, composting, fuel production (SRF), recycling and incineration and we assessed the impact of these on Greenhouse Warming Potential (GWP) and land use.

Environmental management for DHL

We have been working with DHL for over five years and have supported their EMS roll out with a programme of approximately 150 environmental site audits across its UK portfolio. We have designed and delivered environmental training. And from our close relationship have gained a good understanding of DHL's issues and risks and assisted the team with implementing an ISO 14001 accredited EMS. 

Greenhouse gas inventories for Oxfam

WSP developed the greenhouse gas inventory for OXFAM's Asia-Pacific operations, from Northern China to Southern ASEAN.  Our scope included definition of organizational boundaries, development of a reporting template, completion of the inventory and transfer of maintenance tools to OXFAM in-house staff.

Environmental e-learning for Barclays

WSP worked with Barclays to develop electronic training packages on sustainability and environmental management. They were focussed on raising staff awareness of environmental issues at Barclays, how their roles impact on the environment and how their behaviour can reduce this impact. The training was designed to be applicable to all levels of staff as an environmental awareness tool.

Eco-friendly product design tool

We design an online tool to assist eco-friendly product design and compliance with the Energy Using Products Directive (EuP). Our tool, EcoFly, calculates the energy use, carbon emitted, waste generation and water consumption over the whole life of the product.   Applying EcoFly through the design of a product provides the dossier of evidence - and also provides the final evidence of compliance to EuP standards.  Find out more at www.ecoflyonline.com

Evaluating the environmental impacts of packaging

The Centre for Design at RMIT University, with the Sustainable Packaging Alliance (SPA), has developed a Packaging Impact Quick Evaluation Tool (PIQET) to provide a life cycle assessment of the environmental impacts of packaging. The prototype was funded by sponsors including Cadbury Schweppes, Nestle Australia and Masterfoods Australia New Zealand. We were commissioned to develop the tool from Excel into a web based platform.

Online risk management tool

We developed an online hosted risk register which helps organisations to track the implementation of mitigation strategies, hold people accountable for managing risks and provides clients with an easy way of demonstrating effective risk management practices. Using our extensive experience and knowledge, we integrated our 9 core standards of risk management into this easy to use online tool.
