Stringent procedural requirements govern the nuclear and defence industries. It is critical that the assessment and management of environmental liabilities in both soil and groundwater is approached from both a strategic and practical angle. WSP Environment & Energy has personnel experienced in undertaking site characterisation programmes for the nuclear and defence industries to ensure a full understanding of, and compliance with, these procedural requirements.
Our staff responsible for project delivery are trained as Radiation Protection Supervisors and experience in this sector ensures we fully comply with technical objectives; health, safety and security; and regulatory and stakeholder expectations.
We employ a range of services in order to minimise the risk to human health and the environment from activities in the nuclear and defence industries.
These include:
- General consultancy advice in site characterisation
- Geo-environmental desk studies
- Design, scoping and implementation of intrusive investigations
- Bespoke assessments of pre-defined areas of uncertainty
- Factual and interpretative reporting
- Geotechnical appraisals and engineering design
