The Role of the Administrator

Helpdesk support
As part of the provision of support facilities, we provide a telephone and email helpdesk. This provides different channels of communication in which to answer questions from airports about the detail of how the scheme works, what they should do to comply with the scheme requirements for a particular tier of accreditation, and for general enquiries about participation, fees, certification, verification, etc.

From the questions posed to the helpdesk, a list of frequently asked questions has been published and is available on the Airport Carbon Accreditation website.

Application processing and renewal management
As part of the scheme administration, we receive all applications (for all levels) to the scheme. We are then responsible for evaluating and determining the application against the proposed Scheme Level.

Once a successful application has been made and evaluated to meet the requirements, the participant's certificate, accreditation logo and corresponding documentation are issued.  As part of this ongoing process, and to monitor the different applications status, we prepare and maintain a scheme participation register. We also issue airports with a renewal reminder and manage those renewals.

In supporting applications to the scheme, we are responsible for providing documents and guidance to enable applicants to prepare submission to Airport Carbon Accreditation. This will include an annual review of scheme documentation and amendment in consultation with appointed ACI EUROPE representatives as required, as well as the collation and publication of best practices and case studies observed during the year .

Where an application for participation does not meet the requirements of the scheme at the level applied for, we will write to the airport making the application to advise that specified aspects of the application do not meet the requirements. For resolution of the specified issues, the airport is given sufficient time to provide additional information. Where this can not be provided, the application can be revised to apply at a lower level; or be withdrawn.

In addition to these primary roles, we are assisting ACI EUROPE with the marketing of the scheme and also act as Secretary to the independent Advisory Board of the Airport Carbon Accreditation. As part of the preparation for the Board meeting, we prepare an Annual Report to include compilation of aggregated scheme data.

It should be emphasised that the scheme administrator is NOT responsible for compiling airports' carbon footprints or for checking the detail of their calculations. This is the responsibility of the airports and their appointed independent verification bodies.
