Msunduzi and Mgeni River E-Coli Monitoring

Hundreds of paddlers train of a daily basis on water that is potentially contaminated with sewage in preparation for the Duzi Canoe Marathon. WSP Environment & Energy initiated an independent water quality monitoring program whereby level of bacterial contamination in Camps Drift and at the Umgeni Mouth is monitored.  Samples are being analysed for E-coli, an indicator for faecal contamination, by Talbot Laboratories and are being posted on notice boards at the relevant locations and on the DUCT (Duzi uMngeni Conservation Trust) website to warn paddlers of associated health risks.
