Dr Kay Halm joins as Regional Director in Qatar | 23rd May 2011
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Kay Halm as Regional Director in Qatar reflecting the expanded coverage of our team in the Middle East.
Dr Halm has more than 30 years of experience working across Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and Latin America. He joins WSP having performed an Environmental and Sustainability Advisor role for the operating company of 5 airports in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi where he was providing strategic guidance for the 'first green airport complex in the world'. Prior to this he has been engaged by world-leading engineering and program management consultants such as Hill International, Louis Berger, and RRI, and by the European Commission, the European Investment Bank and the World Bank, with much of his early career based in his native Germany.
Dr Halm has broad experience across sustainability and environmental management. His focus has been on integrating sustainability management into programming, planning and operation; assessing and managing environmental and social impacts; preparing water, geotechnical, natural resources, energy, mining, permitting procedures, compliance checks and program and project evaluations.
Speaking about Dr Halm's appointment, Brent Ridgard, WSP's Managing Director for Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific said: "We welcome Kay to our business and will benefit from his immense experience as we develop our interests in Qatar, a market that is developing rapidly, particularly having secured the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Kay has a diverse background that covers sustainability planning, environmental and water engineering, and those skills will help us expand further our relationships with clients in this region building on the work we have already been engaged with on projects such as Phase 1a of the Heart of Doha and Qatar Aerospace."
Dr Halm will be based in Doha with the wider WSP Middle East team which trades in Qatar as Al Sharif-WSP. He is a member of The Association of Engineers; the International Water Association; and the German Sustainable Building Council. His Doctorate is in Natural Sciences (Geosciences) from Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Germany. Dr Halm is also a qualified Environmental Auditor.
