LCA for Lexmark demonstrates significant benefits in cartridge recycling | 27th Apr 2010
Our team in the US recently completed a life cycle assessment (LCA) for printing and imaging provider Lexmark International, Inc. to help them better understand the environmental impact of its toner cartridges. The study showed just how significant the benefit to the environment can be by recycling a used toner cartridge.
The LCA demonstrated that sending a used Lexmark toner cartridge back to Lexmark for recycling, as opposed to discarding it in a landfill, reduces the overall carbon footprint of that cartridge by up to 60 percent (excluding paper consumed during the use phase). The study evaluated the environmental impact of a toner cartridge throughout its lifetime - from raw materials extraction, production, distribution and use until end of life.
This LCA has enabled Lexmark to communicate to its global-client base on the importance of responsible printing and recycling and inform them of Lexmark's commitment to responsible end-of-life management.
