Making PVs work in residential developments

WSP’s Serge Younes is delivering a seminar looking at making PVs work in residential developments, discussing the lessons learnt from Graylingwell in West Sussex for which WSP developed the net-zero carbon strategy. You can find more information on our work at Graylingwell here.

Our presentation forms part of the Future Energy stream and the session on ‘Making micro renewables work: specifying solar PV and BIPV, held in the Ideal Heating Theatre in 4th March at 12.30pm. This session concentrates on the key issues affecting the PV and BIPV market, including the impact of the latest improvements to the efficiency of the technology, the potential changes to the CSH, the role of planning, and the introduction of a feed-in tariff for solar PV and other small-scale renewable electricity technologies in 2010. You can find out more here.

Urban drainage and surface water management plans

As part of the session on integrated urban drainage and surface water management plans, WSP's Brian Cafferkey will present on the pilot Surface Water Management Plan in Thatcham. Our work here saw us working with a steering group consisting of key partners and representatives from the public to review the existing risk of surface water flooding to the town and produce an action plan to reduce this risk.  The plan included engineering options as well as proposals for changes to local and national planning policy.

This presentation forms part of the 'Taking a holistic approach: Integrated Urban Drainage and Surface Water Management Plans' session, which looks at the need for a more robust, sustainable and joined-up approach to managing and mitigating flood risks was required. Integrated Urban Drainage plans have piloted managing local flood risk in an integrated way and at local level, involving the participation of all stakeholders.  It is a case-study led session, which will examine achievements so far, lessons learned, and will include a detailed look at the first pilot studies of DEFRA's Surface Water Management Plans.
