Phil Berry, former Nike Sustainability Director, joins WSP | 11th May 2011
We are delighted to announce that former Nike Sustainability Director, Phil Berry, has been appointed as a Vice-President in the Sustainability Strategy practice of our North American operation.
Phil has over 25 years of experience, integrating profitable sustainability strategy into global business operations at all organizational levels. He joins WSP having worked for over 10 years with Nike, most recently as Director of Footwear Sustainability. For the last 3 years Phil has led his own consultancy, Sustainable Product Works, LLC, advising a number of leading global companies on product & supply chain sustainability issues.

At Nike, Phil's primary responsibility was embedding sustainability into core business operations and the product development process. He was part of the team that conceived, designed and built Nike's first product that was marketed as 'sustainable' and in 2005 this shoe design won a Gold International Design Excellence Award from the Industrial Design Society of America and Business Week magazine.
Speaking about his appointment, Phil said: "The sustainability agenda is becoming increasingly important to the competitiveness of global businesses. It materially impacts product development, life-cycle, supply chain, customer communications and external reporting. WSP has proved itself a leading-edge advisory firm in this rapidly evolving market space. I am very excited to be able to contribute to the growth and development of WSP's Global Sustainability Strategy practice.
Phil has a BSc in Social Science from Portland State University, OR and was the recipient of a U.S. EPA Fellowship to study Environmental Economics at Portland State University. Phil has presented at over 500 events in more than 20 countries on the environment and social sustainability, LEAN enterprise, sustainable products and sustainable supply chains. He serves on the Advisor Committee for the Sustainable Brands Conferences and is also a Professional Member of the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA).
