Washington Business Journal presents Workplace Award to WSP | 24th Sep 2010
WSP is delighted to have scooped the 'Workplace' award at the Washington Business Journal's 'Green Business Awards' on September 24 for our ground-breaking voluntary personal carbon trading program for staff, called PACT.
"We're thrilled to be recognized in this way" says Executive Vice President, Chris Jones, who collected the award. "Our voluntary scheme for staff has over 800 co-workers worldwide signed up, including many of our staff in the U.S. who are tracking and learning about their energy usage at home and travel emissions, and finding ways to manage their impacts."
The Green Business Awards are supported by the Washington Business Journal and the Greater Washington Board of Trade, and promote organizations who are working to incorporate environmentally sustainable practices into their business and community work. The sell-out event at the Willard Intercontinental in D.C. celebrated achievements from organizations across the D.C. area.
WSP's PACT scheme is also available for license by other organizations, and in the UK a number of leading businesses have now joined the 'members club' and receive regular information bulletins with ideas on how to reduce impacts and special offers from appropriate and related suppliers.
"Buy-in from the leadership is essential to the success of a scheme such as PACT" said Chris Jones. "For an engineering and environmental consultancy such as WSP, there is a big element of practicing what we preach, but we have leaders in our business committed to sustainability and that drives momentum, and we also employ staff who are always pushing to do more."
