WSP signs Copenhagen Communique on climate change | 4th Sep 2009

WSP Group has signed up as one of the 200 leading global businesses to endorse the 2009 Copenhagen Communiqué on Climate Change.

The Copenhagen Communiqué was put together by HRH The Prince of Wales's Corporate Leaders' Group on Climate Change (CLG) and is set to become the definitive statement from the international business community ahead of the crucial United Nations negotiations on climate change in Copenhagen in December.

WSP is delighted to participate as a signatory, and our association with the Climate Leadership Programme from The University of Cambridge has helped to facilitate our commitment to supporting this important message from corporate business leaders.

CLG will launch the Communiqué to the international media in week commencing 21 September and this Group aims to hand it personally to Mr Ban Ki-moon (Secretary General of the United Nations) at a public event in New York in advance of the Copenhagen Summit.

Other signatories include Adidas Group, Cable & Wireless plc, Cathay Pacific Airways, HSBC, Procter & Gamble and Swiss Re, amongst over 350 companies of all sizes and background.

WSP Group Executive Director, and signatory, Stuart McLachlan said: "We're delighted to put our name to this very important Communiqué. It's a statement from the business community ahead of the Copenhagen talks on the importance of continued collective and collaborative action on mitigating and adapting to climate change."

"I'm delighted we've been able to support this through the Cambridge Leaders Programme network. Our association with this Programme in the last 12 months has really helped to crystallize in our own business an understanding of the impacts of climate change and how we can help our clients to respond to the ultimate benefit of their business operations" said Stuart.

The UN's Copenhagen Summit seeks to establish an effective, consistent set of climate goals, by integrating the insights of policy makers, academics, business leaders and environmentalists alike, following similar talks in Bali in 2007 and Poznan in 2008.
