…In our solutions for clients
We don’t deliver standard advice, we seek the best solutions to ensure our clients maximise value from working with us. We’re creative in our products, our services and our people. We enjoy the challenge of finding the best solutions for our clients, however unique. Here’s a snapshot of some of our most innovative work:
Ground-breaking Environmental Liability Transfer for a former Kodak site, UK
We’ve recently completed remediation works on a 500,000 sq. ft former Kodak imaging chemicals production facility in Northwest England. Combining expertise from the US and UK, we supported the original sale of the land using our proprietary liability transfer programme , ‘Active Transfer’, which enabled us to assume full environmental obligation for cleaning up the land, including time and cost overruns, and released our client from future contaminated land claims. This was the first transaction of it’s kind in the UK.
Personal carbon trading programme for staff – PACT
Recognised as the world’s first business led carbon trading scheme for staff, PACT is our award winning employee engagement programme. Originally piloted within WSP in 2007, PACT has been adopted by 11 client organisations including Cisco UK, Aviva and Invensys Rail, and now includes over 2000 members in 7 countries. PACT has also won awards in the UK and US, most recently the Washington Business Journal’s “Workplace” Green Business Award. PACT has been described in the media as ‘a shining example of how a far-sighted employer can help staff to combine their personal and work ethics.” More on PACT….
Fuel Cell Power Stations
We’re working with AFC Energy, the developer of low cost alkaline fuel cells, to develop ground breaking large scale low carbon fuel cell power stations which would enter the UK Governments carbon capture and storage “competition”. During the first stage a 50 kW power station will be constructed to demonstrate the fuel cell systems working as part of an integrated power station. During the second stage it is intended, with commercial support, to build a 1 MW power station. This facility will showcase the innovative technology used for generating electricity from hydrogen at almost twice the efficiency of combined heat and power turbines.
…And we’re innovative in exploring emerging markets.
We’re constantly evolving to adapt to markets as they emerge, whether it’s climate change, energy or product stewardship. For example:
We can offer our clients a variety of online software solutions to help manage their environmental, climate change and sustainability issues. Our solutions include online tools for managing risk and environmental data, measuring impacts, monitoring regulatory changes and eLearning delivery. And we recently developed some exciting new products, including ‘Product Ecology’, a global sustainability assessment tool for industrial designers, product developers, engineers, environmental managers, brand owners and OEMs. Find out more about Product Ecology, or visit our dedicated website for a detailed look at our digital expertise.
We know our clients are looking for complete solutions. And we can offer complete solutions though ‘Future Energy’, our brand new business operating in the energy supply sector. Future Energy focuses on the renewable and low-carbon generation and power transmission areas of the energy sector, and brings together skills and expertise to deliver complete solutions, from pre-feasibility through to operation & maintenance and decommissioning.
